If you are like me, there are some people in your life that are hard to buy presents for. This year, there are two such people, both are brothers-in-law. As I have been attempting to give meaningful gifts this year, I really have had a hard time with these two because I just don’t know them that well. My husband and I finally settled on giving them gift cards, which felt a little sad to me, because it doesn’t seem as thoughtful as many of the gifts we are giving other family members this Christmas.
To make the gifts a bit more meaningful, we paired giftcards together to create a “date night” package for each of them. For each of them, we chose a restaurant we know they enjoy going to as well as a movie theater. We also decided to wrap them in a special way and included a personal note to each of them.
What you will need:
- cardstock or an old manila file folder
- wrapping or other decorative paper
Place envelope on a piece of cardstock/file folder and trace. Measure about 1/4″ in from the edges of the outline (so you will actually be able to slide the card into the envelope), and cut out. Using this rectangle cut out a second piece of cardstock.
Cut out a generous piece of wrapping paper. I used brown packaging paper. Fold in half. Fold the top half of the paper back over itself to make a Z shape. You will have one little pocket in which to put a gift card. For this part I used the gift card to determine how tall I wanted the pocket to be. It ended up being about 1.5″. Repeat the folding for each gift card you have.
Place folded paper on one of your cut pieces of cardstock. Use the folded paper to wrap the card stock as you would a gift. Be sure to line up the folds with one another so they are straight on the front.
Take another piece of decorative paper and cut so that it can wrap around the card one time. Wrap and secure.
On your spare piece of cardboard, write a special note to the recipient. Glue or tape to the back side of the card.
Place the giftcards in the folds and write the amounts for each card. The card is now ready to be put in the envelope and sent!
